These are clothes that could be hand made, bought from a wholesaler that only sells to small businesses, or a special line of clothing designed by the owner. All of these are unique items that are not found in the larger department stores.
Boutique items usually have the look of hand made because they are made by smaller shops that are not manufacturing large bulk orders from a department store such as Walmart. They are usually specified to be made from quality materials by the boutique owner since that shop is located in the same town as the customers, it is important to have a satisfied repeat customer. And word of mouth is still king for small boutique owners.
At my store, I am offering boutique style clothing online only which means I can keep my prices lower due to less overhead costs from paying for a brick and mortar store. I only have costs associated with inventory storage and marketing.
