Extended Plus Size True Fit

Why Finding a True 3X, 4X, 5X or 6X Can Be So Frustrating — And Why We Measure Every Garment

If you wear a 3X, 4X, 5X or 6X, you already know something that shouldn't be this difficult:

A size isn't always a size.

You can buy a 4X from one brand and have it fit perfectly, then order another 4X from a completely different brand and wonder how it could possibly have the same size label.

We've all been there.

You find something online that you absolutely love. The picture looks great. The description says 4X. You get excited because it's finally something cute in your size.

Then it arrives.

And it doesn't fit.

Maybe the sleeves are too tight. Maybe the waist is smaller than expected. Maybe the shirt is shorter than you thought it would be. Or maybe the garment technically has a 4X label, but the actual measurements are nowhere close to what you need.

That can be incredibly frustrating.

And honestly, that's one of the reasons we measure our garments at Somethinguluv.

A 3X Isn't Always a 3X

One of the biggest problems with shopping for plus size clothing is inconsistent sizing.

Different brands use different sizing standards. Different manufacturers may cut their clothing differently. Some garments have stretch while others don't. Some are designed to be fitted, while others are intended to have a loose or relaxed fit.

So when you see "3X," "4X," "5X" or "6X," that number or letter is only part of the story.

The actual measurements matter.

That's why we don't want you to have to guess.

We would much rather give you the measurements of the actual garment so you can compare them with something you already own and love.

What Does "True Plus Size" Mean to Us?

When we talk about plus size clothing at Somethinguluv, we're talking about clothing that is actually intended to accommodate plus-size bodies.

We're not interested in taking a garment that runs small, putting a larger size label on it and calling it plus size.

We're looking for clothing in the sizes that so many women have trouble finding — including 3X, 4X, 5X and 6X and beyond when available.

And we're not just looking for the size on the tag.

We're looking at the garment itself.

How does it measure?

How does it fit?

Does it have stretch?

Is it supposed to be fitted or relaxed?

Those details can make a huge difference when you're shopping online.

Why Measurements Are So Important When Shopping Online

When you shop at a traditional store, you can take several sizes into the dressing room.

You can try something on.

You can turn around in the mirror.

You can raise your arms.

You can sit down.

You can decide whether you like the way it feels.

Online shopping doesn't give you that luxury.

That's why measurements become even more important.

Instead of relying solely on the manufacturer's size chart or the size printed on a tag, we want you to have information about the actual item you're considering purchasing.

Our goal is to help take some of the guesswork out of online plus size shopping.

We encourage you to measure a garment you already own.

Find a shirt, pair of pants, dress or other item that fits you the way you like.

Measure it.

Then compare those measurements with the measurements provided for the Somethinguluv item you're interested in.

It isn't a perfect science, because everyone's body and preferred fit are different, but it gives you a much better starting point than simply saying, "I normally wear a 4X, so I'll order a 4X."

We're Not Here to Make You Guess

There is something especially frustrating about ordering clothing online when you already know that finding your size can be difficult.

You shouldn't have to order three different sizes just to figure out which one might fit.

You shouldn't have to wonder whether the "5X" you're looking at is actually going to fit like the 5X you bought last month.

And you shouldn't have to settle for clothing you don't really love just because the selection in your size is limited.

We believe women deserve choices.

That's a big part of what we're trying to build with Somethinguluv.

We're creating a place where women who wear larger sizes can come looking for clothing without immediately feeling like their choices have been reduced to a handful of basic styles.

Plus Size Doesn't Mean One Shape

Another reason measurements matter is that plus-size women don't all have the same body shape.

Some women carry more weight around their stomach.

Some have fuller hips and thighs.

Some have larger busts.

Some have broader shoulders.

Some have long torsos.

Some have shorter torsos.

Some want their clothing fitted, while others want room to move.

Two women who both wear a 4X may need completely different garments to feel comfortable and confident.

That's why we're interested in offering different styles and different types of clothing rather than assuming one particular fit works for everyone.

We're Building Something Different

Somethinguluv Plus Size Thrift and Boutique started because I saw a need for more clothing choices for women who wear plus sizes.

Our goal is to bring together hard-to-find plus sizes, quality pre-owned clothing and boutique styles in one place.

You'll find different brands, different styles, different price points and different types of clothing.

But one thing stays important:

We want you to know what you're buying.

That's why we provide measurements whenever possible.

We want you to be able to look at an item and say:

"Okay, I know these measurements will work for me."

rather than:

"I hope this fits."

There's a big difference.

We're Still Growing — And So Is Our Plus Size Collection

We're continuing to look for clothing in those sizes that can be frustrating to find — especially 3X, 4X, 5X and 6X.

We're also working toward expanding our boutique offerings and bringing in styles for different occasions, including comfortable everyday clothing, workwear, weekend styles and pieces that let you have a little fun with fashion.

Because being plus size shouldn't mean having to choose between comfort and style.

You deserve both.

Before You Order, Grab Your Measuring Tape

Here's our best advice when shopping for plus size clothing online:

Don't assume your size.

Measure yourself and measure a garment you already own that fits you well.

Then compare those measurements to the item you're considering.

It might take an extra minute, but that minute can save you the frustration of receiving something that doesn't fit.

And if you're unsure about an item, ask us.

We're happy to help when we can.

Because at Somethinguluv, we're not trying to sell you something that doesn't fit.

We're trying to help you find something you love wearing.

That's what we're all about.

Hard-to-find plus sizes. Real measurements. Real clothing. Real choices.
